A Message from Superintendent Dr. Khelghati |
The excitement is high across SD 308 as preparations are in full swing to welcome back over 17,000 students to our district in a few weeks! I’ve been spending time listening and meeting with many groups of students, parents, staff and community members. I’m hearing so many great things about our students and their experiences here. I will be hosting a number of additional meet and greet events and would love for you to attend and share with me what you’re most proud of and where you think opportunities exist in SD 308. If you are part of a club or organization who would like to extend an invitation, I would love the opportunity to meet and talk with you. More information on that is listed below.
I recently had the pleasure of being part of a group of 18 new school and district leaders who spent the day hearing all about the systems, practices, and resources within SD 308. This was an incredible opportunity to hear about the work that is being done, and it really energized us all as we embark on our new journey here. We will host a similar event for our new teachers in early August.
Under direction of the Board of Education, my primary focus areas as your new Superintendent include enhancing communication and cooperation, improving our climate and culture, establishing systems for efficiency and accountability, along with financial stability and sustainability. Each of these tasks involve teamwork with our district leaders, our teachers and staff, parents, and area residents, as well as analysis of our district’s current and ideal state.
We are a single community with a focus on helping each and every student here succeed. In working together, sharing ideas, providing feedback and support, we can elevate our district and the experience for our students. I look forward to establishing more opportunities for parents, students, staff, and the community to share ideas and be an active part in shaping the future of our district, all for the good of our students.
In case you missed this in my previous message, I’d like to share again a custom that inspires me. A tribe in Kenya called the Masai, who when greeting each other say “Casserian Engeri.” It means, “And how are the children?” They do not ask each other, “How are you?” or “How's your day?” but rather they ask about the next generation. This is a shared value woven amongst us all, our positive hopes and desires for our children, our community’s next generation. Sending you positive thoughts and hopes for great experiences with family and friends during the remaining summer break! |

Keeping our Buildings Secure |
We are introducing a new added layer of security that helps to enhance safety for our students and staff during the school day. There’s a new system in place at the main entrances to our schools and buildings. There are now recording video call boxes located outside. Visitors will ring the doorbell and then engage in discussion with the office staff for assistance. Visitors who don’t need to enter the school building may be granted access only to a secured vestibule to drop off items, such as a forgotten lunch or form, or pick up things from the school such as a work packet from a teacher. If a visitor needs to enter the building, they will follow the same procedures, and once let into the office, they will need to provide a photo ID and receive a visitor badge.
