Dear SRVUSD Community,
Earlier this afternoon, out of an abundance of caution, we moved California High School to a “secure” status. “Secure” means that the school is not in a full lockdown, but we limit student and staff movements on campus for a period of time.
This decision was made because we were advised of an unspecified threat made via phone call to the San Ramon Police Department through their dispatch, which described a possible threat against the school site. We immediately worked with the San Ramon Police Department, who were then able to confirm that there was no credible threat. We released the “secure” status, and normal school schedules and operations continued.
As a parent myself, I understand how stressful situations like this can be for students and families. It is never our intention to cause undue worry; however, the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. These decisions are not made lightly. In these situations, our immediate focus is on ensuring student safety while working to provide accurate information to families as quickly as possible.
No threats were made against any of our other campuses, and their operations were not impacted. However, we recognize that our school communities and families are deeply connected.
If your student is experiencing anxiety related to this incident, school counselors are available at Cal High School or your student’s school, if needed. If you or your student ever has concerns about school safety, you can report them through the CareLine, accessible on each school’s homepage, or by speaking with a trusted adult on campus.
We are incredibly grateful for our amazing staff and administration, who remained calm and kept students reassured throughout the incident. We also appreciate the swift response and support from our community partners at the San Ramon Police Department.
If you have further questions or concerns, please contact your student’s principal.
Sincerely,
CJ Cammack
Superintendent
