Message from Superintendent Veal

Dear Bayshore Community,

As another school year draws to a close, I reflect on the remarkable journey we’ve shared in our small but mighty district. This year has been full of growth, learning, and countless moments of pride, and I am truly grateful to have been part of this special community.

Thank you PTO

First, a sincere thank you to our PTO for their outstanding staff appreciation event. Your creativity, energy, and willingness to go the extra mile made our staff feel truly valued. Thank you for your continued support of our school.

Gratitude for Our Community

To our families and community partners: thank you for your support and partnership throughout the year. Whether you volunteered your time, attended school events, or encouraged your children every day, your involvement has been the foundation of our success. Together, we continue to foster a nurturing environment where every student can thrive.

Farewell

As many of you know, this will be my final newsletter as your superintendent. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve this district. I am incredibly proud of all we have accomplished together.

While I am excited for the next chapter in my journey, I will cherish the memories and relationships I have made here. I am confident that our district will continue to flourish, thanks to our staff's dedication, our families' support, and our students' resilience.

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your lives and your partnership in helping our children grow and succeed. I wish you all a restful summer and a future filled with continued learning and joy.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Veal

An Update from Mrs. McZ

Dear Bayshore Families,

It’s hard to believe we are in the final stretch of the school year! May is always a whirlwind of activities, celebrations, assessments, and reflection—and this year is no exception. As we approach the end of the school year, I want to thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we are creating a strong, connected community that supports the success and well-being of every student.

State Testing and Student Support

This month, our grades 3–8 students participated in the annual CAASPP state assessments.  Our testing window was Monday, May 12, to Friday, May 16, 2025.  Testing can bring up mixed emotions for students, so we did everything possible to provide a calm, supportive environment. Thank you for ensuring your students were on time to school and well-rested.

I look forward to seeing our students grow when the results are released next fall.

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week

May 5–9 was Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week! We are incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated and passionate team of educators and support staff at The Bayshore School. Thank you for all you do.

Field Trip Fun

This month has been filled with lots of fun trips for students.  At the end of April, Mrs. Apacio took the community building off campus on a trip to Skyzone. The students took donations and did lots of fundraising to make the trip happen.

Mrs. Young and Ms. Petersen took their classes to Alcatraz for bird-watching with the Audubon Society. Students saw the nesting cormorants that call the island home and toured the jail.

Upcoming Events and Celebrations

Looking Ahead

After-School Programming
We will have an after-school program next year. We are currently looking into our options and hope to have something lined up by the end of the school year.  We will keep you posted.

Although we’re wrapping up the year, we’re also looking ahead to how we can make next year even stronger. Thank you to all the families who participated in surveys, attended advisory meetings, and shared ideas. Your input helps guide our planning for after-school programming, family engagement, and academic enrichment.

As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions, concerns, or ideas. I’m so proud of all that we’ve accomplished together this year, and I look forward to finishing the year on a high note—with joy, celebration, and a continued focus on student success.

With gratitude,

Brandy McZ, Principal

Community Schools Update

Hello Bayshore Families!

I just wanted to update you on the status of the funding for the Community School.  We received information that we were NOT a recipient for the Implementation Grant, which would have given us funding for the next five years.  Unfortunately, we also learned that no schools in the Bay Area were awarded this funding. We will appeal this decision and can give updates if the status changes.  While this is disappointing, it does not mean that the work will stop.  The administration will continue to plan for supports that will address the gaps and barriers that are impacting student achievement.
