Message from Superintendent Veal

Dear Bayshore Community,

As we approach the end of March, I'd like to share some exciting news and important updates with our school community.

Athletic Achievements

Congratulations to our middle school boys' and girls' basketball teams for their outstanding performances this season! A special shout-out goes to the 8th grade boys' team and Coach Sabrina for clinching the championship title. Your hard work and dedication have made our district proud.

Budget Discussions and LCAP Goals

We are currently in a challenging period as we navigate necessary budget adjustments. I understand there may be concerns and misinformation circulating within our community. I encourage all families to seek out multiple perspectives and stay informed by attending or listening to our upcoming board meetings. These sessions will provide crucial discussions about our budget and Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) goals.

Our LCAP goals focus on several key areas, including:

  1. Improving academic achievement for all students

  2. Improving English Learner and Long-Term English Learner proficiency

  3. Increasing student, parent, and community engagement & sense of belonging

  4. Addressing chronic absenteeism

These goals guide our decision-making process as we work to provide the best possible education for our students while managing our resources responsibly.

I encourage you to stay engaged with our district's progress and participate in the ongoing conversations about our future. Your input and support are invaluable as we work together to navigate these challenges and continue providing high-quality education for all our students.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication to our school community.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Veal

An Update from Mrs. McZ

Dear Bayshore Families,

Happy March! As we welcome the changing seasons, I want to take a moment to reflect on all the exciting events and learning opportunities happening in our school. Spring is a time of growth, renewal, and new beginnings, and we look forward to embracing all that this month offers.

Upcoming Events & Important Dates:

  • Friday, March 21, 2025:  Middle School Honor Roll Assembly 1:15 in the MPR
  • Friday, March 21, 2025: Middle School Game Night, 6-8 PM in the MPR

  • Thursday, March 27, 2025:  Spring Picture Day
  • Friday, March 28, 2025:  Coffee with the Principal, 9-10 AM STEAM 1

The Importance of Attending Parent-Teacher Conferences:
Parent-teacher conferences are a vital opportunity to strengthen the partnership between home and school. Attending these meetings allows you to:

  • Gain insights into your child’s academic progress, strengths, and areas for growth.
  • Discuss strategies to support your child’s learning at home.
  • Address any concerns or questions with your child’s teacher.
  • Collaborate on goals and plans to ensure your child’s success.
Your involvement in your child’s education makes a significant impact, and we encourage all parents to participate. If you are unable to attend on the scheduled date, please reach out to your child’s teacher to arrange an alternative meeting time.
  • If you have not already, be sure to secure a time to meet with your student’s teacher to learn about their academic growth.

Celebrating Women’s History Month:
March is Women’s History Month, a time to recognize and honor the incredible contributions of women throughout history. Throughout the month, our students are learning about influential women in various fields, from science and literature to civil rights and politics during morning announcements and in class. By celebrating these achievements, we aim to inspire our students to appreciate the impact of women in shaping our world and encourage them to pursue their own dreams and aspirations. We invite families to continue the conversation at home by exploring books, stories, and discussions about women who have made a difference.

We celebrated the conclusion of Read Across America Week on Friday, March 7, 2025 with guest readers from our community.  Thank you to Adonis Marcelino, Beverly Gerard, Leilani, Ruby and Rebecca from BGCP, Officer Ronoldo, David Rudolph, Dr D’Andrea Robinson, Hannah Wright, Jane Camarco, Juslyn Manalo, Kristie Leong, Kristine Macalalad, Laura Novoa, Linda Mattos, Judge Rachel Holt, Toni Presta and Vanessa Baltodano for sharing your love of reading with our students.

Health & Wellness Reminder:
With seasonal allergies and spring colds on the rise, please continue to monitor your child’s health and encourage good hygiene habits, including handwashing and covering coughs and sneezes.

A Note of Appreciation:
Thank you to our volunteer basketball coaches for their hard work, skill, and patience working with our student-athletes.  Thank you, families, for your commitment to getting your kids to practice and games each week and for being at games to show your support.  Thank you, Bayshore Community, for showing up for our kids and for being the best fans around!

EXCELLENT WORK, ATHLETES!  CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF YOU FOR A SEASON FILLED WITH LEARNING AND GROWTH ON AND OFF THE COURT!

CONGRATULATIONS 8TH GRADE BOYS AND COACH SABRINA ON YOUR CHAMPIONSHIP WIN!  GO DOLPHINS!

Community Schools Update

Hello Bayshore Families!

This month we had a Family Night scheduled that was focused on supporting our students with challenging behavior.  Sadly, due to a lack of RSVP’s the event was canceled.  Please take the time to respond to these flyers when they come out if the topic is of interest to you so that future events do not need to be canceled at the last minute.  Also, if there are topics that you feel would be an important part of building the school culture and community, please email me with that information and we can work together on setting up more Family Nights with topics relevant to the needs of our families.

Upcoming Events

Summer programming has begun.  This year there will be two programs operating on the campus during the summer from June 16 - July 11 (with June 19 and July 4 off for holidays).

BIG LIFT INSPIRING SUMMERS (BLIS) [8:00a - 4:00p]

Enrollment for this program has already begun. This program is by invitation only for students who will be in Kinder - 3rd grade during the 2025-26 school year. If you received an email with information about how to enroll in BLIS, please remember to sign up your eligible student(s) as there are a limited number of spots available per grade.

RESOURCE AREA FOR TEACHERS (RAFT) [8:00a - 5:00p]

Enrollment for this program is now OPEN!  This program will focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) activities that build critical thinking, team building, cooperation and social-emotional learning in our students.  Bayshore students who will be in grades Kinder - 8th grade in the 2025-26 school year and have been enrolled in the current school year are eligible to enroll.

If you have children aged 0 to 5 in your home, take a moment to get your kids signed up for the Imagination Library. This program is a collaboration of the San Mateo Libraries with Dolly Parton’s organization.  By signing up, each child in your home will be given a book every month until their 5th birthday.  Reading and literacy are important skills for our youth to develop and exposure to books is the first step to building their love of this crucial capability.
