Hello TK-2nd Grade Families! Welcome to April! We are wishing you the hop-iest of Easters, and we are looking forward to the break! Enjoy your time off with your kiddos! What's Important? Homework: Please make sure that your child has their homework folder with them each day! Please check the homework folder each night for important paperwork, and to make sure your child is completing their homework. ASP does not ensure that homework is complete or correct! Words to Know:
Each week your child has a list of words in their Reading Folder that they need to memorize. These are either Vocabulary or High Frequency Words. Often these words cannot be sounded out and instead must be memorized. Please find this list and help your child practice memorizing these words, and their meanings. They are an important part of their weekly assessments, and future success with becoming skilled readers! Reading Folder:
Please be sure to complete the reading in the Reading Folder, and the reading log, each night, and send the folder back on Friday. Students who do not complete their reading folder are not getting the much needed practice with the phonics and vocabulary for the week. This is the best way for you to see how well your child is progressing in their reading, and to help them improve. Spelling: Students in grades 1 and 2 have a spelling list each week. Please help them practice their spelling words throughout the week. You can give them practice tests, have them spell words that you recite to them, or research some fun ways to practice as a family at home. Try this link for some ideas! https://scholarwithin.com/10-spelling-activities?srsltid=AfmBOopjawmQfQdvcn9bSR5K-a-DJOBxLLCOMkDe3-Ln2PzLOTc5bWkH Pyramid of Success Block for April: Team Spirit: "Be eager to help your team." When you're part of a team, always remember that your job is to do what will help your teammates achieve success. The goals of your team come first. Figure out how you can help your team do its best."
What's Fun? The BRAVE Experience, grades K-5 took a trip to the Chico Children's Museum and Gateway Science Museum, on March 15. And then went to the IMAX theatre and Sutter's Fort, in Sacramento, on March 29th. Please enjoy the pictures!! Upcoming Field Trips: April 5, 2025--Miss Cameron, the art teacher, and her team from Sky Cave Arts are coming to Berry Creek for a fun-filled day of creativity. May 3, 2025--Quarry Park, in Rocklin, and the Aerospace Museum of California, in Sacramento.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me at kperez@puesd.org, or call (530) 429-5155. Sincerely, Miss Perez |

It's April, time for better weather....hopefully. We've been busy in class with the following: Algebra, graphing, Chinese and Greek history, reading The Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus, reading and writing about explorers to the poles, geography of Asia, working with magnets, art, (lately drawing a shark), and various other odds and ends.
I recently started a guitar class that so far has quite a few participants. I've done this plenty of times in the past and have found that the ones who make it are realistic about the need for practice. Those that don't practice and think they should be rock stars in a week fade away pretty quickly. We'll see what happens, but I have high hopes. If anyone out there has a guitar lying around that they would like to donate to the cause it would be greatly appreciated.

The Reading Room and Library are busy these days. We have groups of students who are working on their fluency (how fast they read) using Read Live daily for 30-45 minutes. We are seeing improvement in their scores! We also have Reading Groups that focus on student's reading skills such as letter names, sounds, blending letters to make words and chunking parts of words! On Tuesday we have our RSP teacher here and we collaborate on our shared students. Tuesday through Friday we have Ms. Adrian here who supports our RSP students on Tuesday,Wednesday and subs for me on Thursday and Friday! All our students are making progress and PLEASE read with your students nightly even if it's just for 15 minutes, every little bit helps! Thank you for your support!!
