March 21, 2025 Greetings Tiger Community,
Spring Break is upon us! We wish our learning community restful days (and safe travels if you are going out of town) during the week off. Our students completed five days of state testing for the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) where they showed their skills in Math and ELA, so we feel they are definitely deserving of some days off! As a reminder, we are on Spring Break until Tuesday, April 1, so Monday 3/31 is a non-attendance day for students and staff. Please travel safely or enjoy a restful Stay-cation at home!
When we return to school after Spring Break we will be in the home stretch for the end of the school year. Makeup testing for IAR tests will begin on April 1 for students who missed one of the IAR tests. Then our 8th graders will begin testing for the Illinois Science Assessment on Wednesday, April 2. The ISA test will occur in your student’s Science class for 8th graders only. Lastly, thank you to our amazing NJHS students for the lovely staff breakfast celebration on Thursday morning! See below for some of the pictures from the event. Have a great spring break!

** How can my child best protect their belongings? Parents/guardians - we encourage you to have conversations with your student about bringing ONLY the items that are required/needed during school. Avoid carrying excessive amounts of money, items of sentimental or monetary value (including electronics like AirPods) to ensure it is not lost or damaged while at school. If students need to buy a lunch, you can simply load money in their e-wallet through PushCoin. Additionally, please have your student label their belongings (i.e. Chromebook charger, backpacks, water bottles, coats, etc..), so it is easier to return to students.
** No outside restaurant food or deliveries are allowed for students.** Attendance Reminder!
If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, please call the attendance line at 630-636-2601 in a timely manner. Please leave the following details in your message: Your name Your student's name Phone number you can be reached with any questions Reason for absence (including any symptoms, if out for illness).
Automated Attendance & Tardy Messages
Everyday automated attendance calls are sent out by the district at 9:30 AM, based on the attendance we have entered into the system by 9:15 AM. Additionally, automated tardy messages are sent out by the district to parents at 3:30 PM daily. If your student is marked tardy it means they were late to a class. You can check tardies and absences in PowerSchool. Please discuss with your student or their teacher for more information. |

Tips from the School Nurse |

As with my house, I am sure many of you have started or will start spring cleaning. The Health office would like to request donations of clothing. With bloody noses and scrapes and scratches some of our kids need midday changes that they usually get from the health office. Gently used clothing of all sizes is appreciated. Some of our 6th graders are on the small size and some of our 8th graders look full grown! We would appreciate t-shirts, long sleeves, jeans, pants, and shorts. Brand new girls and boys underwear would also be appreciated as accidents still happen. If you have any questions feel free to call. Enjoy the upcoming weather!

| The Care Closet is ready to help if you are in need.
WHAT is the Care Closet?
The care closet provides relief to students and their families who are experiencing hardships; food insecurity, lack of weather appropriate clothing, basic hygiene supplies, school supplies, etc.
WHO gets to use it? This is a FREE resource provided to students with items you may not be able to afford. While this is offered to all students, the intent is to share these items with students and families that truly can not purchase them on their own. Will everyone know that I am using the Care Closet?
NO! The use of the Care Closet is confidential! HOW does it work?
Click here to fill out our Google Form with your student's ID#. Your items will be available for pick up in the main office by the following day! No Phone? No problem! Contact your counselor or the main office for a form! |
