March 2025
Dear SRVUSD Parents and Caregivers,
As shared in previous communications, Assembly Bill (AB) 3216, known as the Phone-Free Schools Act, was signed into law by Governor Newsom in September 2024. This legislation requires all school districts to establish policies that limit student smartphone use during the school day by June 2026. SRVUSD is working to adopt our board policy ahead of schedule, with a target date of the start of the 2025-26 school year.
As part of our ongoing collaborative efforts to create a policy that best supports our entire community, we hosted virtual parent forums in February to gather input. If you were unable to attend a forum, you can view the presentation and share your feedback through this Google Form. The feedback form will remain open until April 4, 2025.
For middle and high school students, we have two virtual forums specifically for students to provide input on the creation of the Board policy. Sign-ups are still available (max 50 per session).
Student forum dates: March 31 and April 2 from 3:30-4:30 pm
We greatly value your perspective as we strive to create a policy that meets the diverse needs of our school community.
Thank you for your continued engagement in this important process. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at communications@srvusd.net.
