Dear Middle and High School Students,

Did you know that our school district’s Board of Education has one board member who is a student?

The Board of Education in San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) is responsible for guiding our school district including things like: the district’s budget, new policies, curriculum and bell schedules, etc. Some things being discussed in upcoming SRVUSD board meetings are:

  • Adding a cell phone use policy for next school year
  • Approving new courses and educational pathways for students
  • Budget reductions and the 2025-26 school year

The student board member’s role is to bring the voice, ideas, and viewpoints of students to matters that are being discussed and/or voted upon by the 5 elected adult members of SRVUSD’s Board of Education.

This year, Travis Hodges, a senior at Monte Vista High, is the student Board member. Once a month Travis offers an opportunity to hear directly from the students he represents (YOU) by holding office hours. This is your chance to share an idea, bring forward a concern, ask a question, or just learn more about what is happening in the district.

Sign up for a time to connect virtually with Travis… and you can also consider inviting a friend to join the discussion with you!

CELL PHONE POLICY FORUMS FOR STUDENTS

For Middle and High School Students

As we have shared prior, Assembly Bill (AB) 3216, known as the Phone-Free Schools Act, was signed into law by Governor Newsom in September 2024. The bill requires all school districts to establish policies limiting student smartphone use during the school day by June 2026. SRVUSD is aiming to establish our board policy early, by the start of the 2025-26 school year.

As a part of our continued collaborative process to create a board policy that best supports our students, we seek additional input by offering two virtual forums. Space is limited to 50 participants for each forum. We will also provide a recorded presentation and feedback form to any students unable to attend the forums.

We value your perspective as we work to develop a policy that reflects the diverse needs of our entire school community. Please consider joining us at one of our forums by registering for one of the dates below:

➡️  Monday, March 31: 3:30-4:30 pm

➡️  Wednesday, April 2: 3:30-4:30 pm

Thank you for your time and engagement in this important process. If you have any questions, please contact communications@srvusd.net.
