Greetings Tigers Community,
We are almost ready for Spring Break, especially with outside temperatures seeming like Spring! As we enter the final stretch of the school year with less than 10 weeks remaining, we have noticed an increase in impulsive behaviors among students. We encourage you to have discussions at home with your children about our positive behavior expectations. Reinforcing these values at home can greatly support their success in school. Thank you for your continued partnership to bridge the expectations between home and school.
This week our Thompson Tigers took the math portion of IAR. On Tuesday and Wednesday of next week we will be completing the ELA portion. Testing season will conclude after spring break, when our 8th graders take the ISA test in their Science classes. To prepare students for success, here are some helpful tips:
Get a good night sleep before state testing
Eat breakfast before state testing, and stay hydrated with water during the test
Come prepared for testing by having your Chromebook fully charged - all tests will be on the computer
Bring wired headphones for testing (not wireless headphones or airpods) if you have them - if not, we will provide wired headphones for students to use during all days of testing
If you are available tonight or tomorrow, we invite you to come out and support our talented Tiger thespians in their production of "Mean Girls JR." We had the pleasure of attending the performances this week, and it is truly a must-see! Showtimes:
- Friday, March 14: Spring Musical from 7 PM to 9 PM
- Saturday, March 15: Spring Musical from 2 PM to 4 PM
We hope to see you there!
Lastly, The 5Essentials survey for students and families is available and will remain open until March 31st. We greatly appreciate your participation in this survey, as your feedback helps us at Thompson to continue growing and making improvements to best meet the needs of our students.
This is a reminder to participate in the parent survey supplement, part of the Illinois 5Essentials Survey administration. We guarantee that survey responses will never be connected to the identity of you or your child. School reports will only present aggregated information of how parents and students responded as a whole.
A parent survey report will be generated if at least 20 percent of parents/guardians respond to the survey. While the parent data will not be made public, the parent report will be made available to Principal Lewis and Superintendent Khelghati and will enable them to make considerations based on the responses given by Thompson Junior High parents/guardians. Your participation in the parent survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Again, your identity and individual survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
Teachers and fourth through 12th grade students throughout Illinois are taking the 5Essentials Survey. School-level 5Essentials Reports will be generated if teachers and/or students meet their 50 percent response-rate thresholds. These research-based reports will be sent to schools and districts in May and will also be included in the State School Report Card, released statewide in the fall.
Please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ to take the parent survey.
If you have any questions about the survey, please contact UChicago Impact Survey Support at 1-866-440-1874 or impact-surveys@uchicago.edu.
Have a great weekend,
