Spring is teasing us. As the sun stays out later each night, we can look forward to the warmer temperatures that will follow. Speaking of warmth and more daylight, I hope you have some fun activities lined up for the upcoming months. It’s time to get out the golf clubs, hiking shoes, bikes, water toys, camping and fishing gear!!
However, before we get spring fever too badly, we still have a lot of work to do before Spring Break! Many of our students’ hard work has paid off publicly this month and we have a lot to celebrate!! |

Our chess club has run from January to May for ten years and it's more than just playing chess. Beyond being a game of strategy, chess offers a wealth of life lessons. Here are some key learnings: Strategic Thinking: -
Chess compels you to think several moves ahead, anticipating your opponent's actions. This translates to planning and foresight in real-life situations.
- It teaches you to evaluate situations, weigh options, and make informed decisions.
Patience and Discipline: -
Chess requires patience and focus. Rushing moves can lead to costly mistakes. This reinforces the value of careful consideration and disciplined action.
Problem-Solving: - Each chess game presents a unique set of problems. You learn to analyze these problems, identify patterns, and devise solutions.
Adaptability: - The game's dynamic nature necessitates adapting to changing circumstances. You must adjust your strategy based on your opponent's moves.
Learning from Mistakes: - Chess teaches that mistakes are inevitable. However, it also emphasizes the importance of analyzing those mistakes and learning from them.
Consequences of Actions: - Every move in chess has consequences. This reinforces the understanding that our actions in life also have repercussions.
Thinking Ahead and Planning: - Chess is all about planning ahead. This skill translates directly to life, where planning for the future is essential for success.
Sacrifice: - Sometimes in chess, you must sacrifice a piece to gain a strategic advantage. This teaches the valuable lesson that sometimes sacrifices are necessary to achieve a greater goal.
Focus and Concentration: - Chess demands intense focus and concentration, skills that are valuable in all aspects of life.
In essence, chess provides a microcosm of life, where strategic thinking, patience, and adaptability are crucial for success. Chess club is not full yet. We have a few spots open for students in grades 5 and up who want to learn. We're open to all skill levels. |
