Principal's Message

April 18, 2025

Happy Friday, Quail Families,

We are absolutely thrilled to welcome our students back to campus after what we hope was a restful and rejuvenating spring break! The school feels a little quieter without their energy, and we've been eagerly anticipating their return.

This week has already been buzzing with learning! This week has already been filled with wonderful engagement! We had a fantastic turnout for our First Grade Open House. It was such a joy to see our youngest learners proudly share their classrooms and accomplishments with their families. The excitement and pride in the air were truly contagious – a big thank you to our incredible first-grade teachers for creating such a welcoming and engaging experience! Our fantastic third graders had a wonderful opportunity to explore our local government with their field trips to San Ramon City Hall. It's so important for them to connect their classroom learning to the workings of our community.

Next week is Earth Day Week! It's a fantastic opportunity for us to come together as a school community to celebrate our planet and learn more about how we can all be better stewards of the Earth. We have some engaging and educational activities planned throughout the week for our students, focusing on topics like conservation, reducing waste, and appreciating the natural world around us. A special highlight of our Earth Day celebrations will be Eco Hero Presentations!

Looking ahead, we are now gearing up to support our fifth graders as they prepare for CAASPP testing next week. We know they will shine and show all they've learned this year. Please keep them in your positive thoughts!

Finally, I'd like to invite you to join me for Coffee with the Principal on Thursday, April 24th. This will be an open forum where you can come chat, ask questions, share any needs or ideas you might have, and connect with me in a relaxed setting. I truly value your input and look forward to our conversation. More details on the time and location will follow in a separate communication, so keep an eye out!

It's great to have our students back, and we're excited for all that this spring has in store for Quail Run. Thank you for your continued partnership!

Warmly,

Bassant Abdelrahman

Proud Principal of Quail Run Elementary

APRIL RESOLUTIONS

School Library Month

San Ramon Valley Unified School District recognizes the month of April as School Library Month. The school library ensures that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information and contributes to the growth and development of all students. Lifelong learning is enhanced and systematically developed through the school library. The librarian’s role is to provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library is an integral part of each school’s instructional program.

Arab American Heritage Month

San Ramon Valley Unified School District recognizes the month of April as Arab American Heritage Month. Arab Americans have made valuable contributions to virtually every aspect of our national and local community, including medicine, law, business, technology, government, and culture. Issues affecting Arab Americans, such as civil rights abuses, harmful stereotyping, harassment, and bullying must be combated through education and awareness. As stated in the Multicultural Education Policy of the California State Board of Education, each student needs an opportunity to understand the common humanity underlying all people.

National Day of Silence: April 11, 2025 (Rescheduled to April 18, 2025)

San Ramon Valley Unified School District recognizes April 11, 2025 as National Day of Silence. Due to Spring Break, the Day of Silence has been rescheduled to April 18, 2025. During this student-led national event, some students may choose to take a vow of silence to bring attention to the name calling, bullying and harassment that many LGBTQ+  youth face. SRVUSD promotes respect, tolerance and acceptance on all our campuses and believes that all students and staff have a right to a safe and healthy school environment. National Day of Silence will not alter instruction on April 18, but students may voluntarily participate and teachers may discuss and are asked to be thoughtful and sensitive as they create lesson plans. Teachers will be teaching on this day.

Public School Volunteer Appreciation Week:  April 20-26

San Ramon Valley Unified School District recognizes the week of April 20-26, 2025 as Public School Volunteer Appreciation Week. The many devoted and dedicated volunteers in our community provide essential support to our students through generous donations of time, talent, and resources. Volunteers enrich learning experiences beyond what is often available for students and selflessly serve on our boards and committees. They play a key role as our partners in education and in fostering a sense of community and pride within our schools and district.

Environmental Week: April 20-26

San Ramon Valley Unified School District recognizes the week of April 20-26, 2025 as Environmental Week. Schools have the potential to effect positive, tangible environmental change while preparing students, in their careers and civic life, to be stewards of their communities, the earth, and its resources. We support students in becoming aware of the impact of their actions on themselves, others, the environment, and vulnerable communities around the world. SRVUSD also acknowledges April 21 as John Muir Day and April 22 as Earth Day.
