Parent Update Thursday, April 17, 2025 |
Dear SD 308 Community,
It is amazing to think that in just one month, our seniors from Oswego and Oswego East High Schools will be walking the stage at Northern Illinois University, celebrating their achievements as scholars, athletes, artists, and difference-makers in SD 308.
As their journeys with SD 308 come to a close, our district is just getting started with implementing the recently approved Strategic Plan. I am delighted to share with you SD 308’s latest video, “Our Story.” This is a beautiful showcase of our district’s opportunities, diversity, and unique role in the community. This video connects closely with our Strategic Plan, as we highlight our community’s past, celebrate our present, and build the future together. Please explore the link in this newsletter to watch this video and learn more about “Our Story.”
Additionally, next month we will have the opportunity to celebrate our multi-year honorees who have dedicated 25, 30, and 35 years to SD 308, as well as our retirees who prepare for the next chapter of their lives! These individuals have provided a combined total of 1,786 years of service and dedication to our district! We are so grateful for their contributions to and lasting impact on our community.
I also want to recognize that this is a time of reflection for many faiths and traditions in our community. Passover began this past Saturday, and Easter is this upcoming Sunday. I hope that all who observe these holidays enjoy their celebrations! As we near Teacher Appreciation Week (May 5-9), we prepare to honor our educators. They are truly our bedrock of success and what makes SD 308 so special. Thank you, teachers, for your hard work and dedication to our students!
At this time, I believe it is important to reemphasize our desire to finish this school year on a high note. We are so proud of all our students’ amazing achievements thus far this year and cannot wait to see what they continue to accomplish! Warm regards, |

The community of Oswego has grown from humble beginnings. What was once a rural area filled with small country schools is now home to the seventh largest school district in Illinois. Each defining moment of our history has brought us to where we are today: a diverse community dedicated to serving students throughout their unique educational journeys.
This is “Our Story.” Together, we are writing the next chapter. Click here to learn more and watch the video! |

Junior High Students and Staff Prepare for Changes |
Beginning this fall, our junior high students have the opportunity to embrace change.
Students will be required to keep their backpacks in their lockers during the school day, a modification to current practices. Additionally, next year’s slightly adjusted bell schedule will allow for an additional minute of time during passing periods, enabling students enough time to visit their lockers in between classes.
This practice will revert to previous procedures; prior to navigating COVID-19 in our buildings, our junior high schools had a no-backpack policy. It was only during the return from remote learning that students began utilizing their backpacks as opposed to their lockers to uphold social distancing guidelines.

| Oswego East Art Club Collaborates with Wolf's Crossing |
All creativity begins with a single spark, an idea. One Oswego East High School senior’s creativity spans beyond her abilities in the visual arts. Magdalena Mocarski, OEHS Art Club Vice President, led a collaborative effort with elementary school students, seeking inspiration from a fun activity in her family. “It brought me and my siblings immense joy sharing those drawings,” she said in an email. “I figured that other high schoolers and elementary schoolers could also find joy in creating and reimagining characters.”

Help Us Have a Healthy End to the School Year! |
The United States is experiencing an unprecedented surge in measles cases across 22 states and jurisdictions. Measles is highly contagious and can be fatal, especially in school-aged children. Vaccinations are essential for safeguarding children and school communities by preventing disease outbreaks, protecting vulnerable students, minimizing absenteeism, and ensuring compliance with school and state regulations. Your help is critical in ensuring that students are vaccinated and that proper outbreak control measures are taken to prevent the spread of measles.
Please NOTE: unvaccinated or unprotected individuals that are exposed to measles will be required to be excluded from school for 21 days if they experience exposure to measles and do not take steps to become protected against measles via vaccination. This applies to all students and personnel of the schools. Please utilize these helpful links to learn more!
