February 7, 2025 Happy Friday, Quail Families,
What a fantastic week it's been! We've had so much to celebrate, and we're excited to share some of the highlights with you.
First, we want to give a huge shout-out to Ms. Zhang and all the students who participated in our "Words Matter" week. The activities were engaging and thought-provoking, reminding us all of the impact our words can have. Thank you, Ms. Zhang, for fostering such important conversations, and thanks to all the teachers for teaching the students the importance of their words.
Our Winter Choir Concert was a resounding success! From the youngest performers to our seasoned singers, everyone shone brightly. The music was beautiful, and the atmosphere was filled with joy. Thank you to all the students, teachers, and families who made the evening so memorable.
We're also thrilled to announce a successful start to our 16th Annual Read-a-thon! It's wonderful to see so many students diving into books and fostering a love of reading. Keep up the great work, everyone!
Our 4th graders have been busy learning about how to "Speak Up and Be Safe" through a special program this week. These valuable lessons will empower them to make positive choices and create a safer environment for themselves and others.
And now, the excitement continues! Tonight is our Lunar New Year celebration, and we can't wait to celebrate with you all! We've heard whispers of delicious food, vibrant performances, and a truly festive atmosphere. Tickets will be available at the door, so come on down and join the fun! We are looking forward to seeing you all there! Have a wonderful weekend! Warmly, Bassant Abdelrahman

CogAT Message to Second Grade Families Dear Second Grade Families, CogAT (GATE) testing this year will be held on February 12th, 13th and 15th.
Please understand that the entire second grade team feels that the CogAT test in no way indicates to us as teachers, who is GIFTED and who is not. We know our students have wide-ranging gifts and talents that simply cannot be measured by a single test.
Please do not put any unnecessary pressure on your student by talking about the CogAT. It is not something the students can prepare for. This test does not reflect on a student's promotion to the next grade level, nor does it have any bearing on a college application. As the district email to parents indicated, the test “may cause anxiety in some students and may not be in their best interest to participate.” The best advice that you can give your child is to put forth their best effort, get a good night’s sleep, eat a hearty breakfast, and RELAX.
The second grade teachers don’t need a test to tell us that we each have classes full of gifted and talented students. We already know that! :-) Thanks for your support! Be Well,
