Dear LLESD Staff, Families, and Community Members,
PowerSchool informed our leadership team that they experienced a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to information at nearly all of the 18,000 school districts that they work with. PowerSchool states that “PowerSchool has received reasonable assurances from the threat actor that the data has been deleted and that no additional copies exist.” Based on that statement, PowerSchool does not think that there is any future threat to your information from this incident.
The unauthorized party did gain access to the following information about staff and students, including former staff and students through 2006:
Allergies and medical conditions
Birth date, name, and gender
For staff members: contact information
For students: student, guardian, doctor, and emergency contact information
Social security numbers for eight individuals who have already been contacted - if you were not contacted individually then your social security number was not one of those nine
Again, while PowerSchool does not think that there is any future threat to your information, we wanted to advise you of the information that was accessed.
PowerSchool also sent the following information:
Identity Protection: PowerSchool will be offering two years of complimentary identity protection services for all students and educators whose information was involved.
Credit Monitoring: PowerSchool will also be offering two years of complimentary credit monitoring services for all adult students and educators whose information was involved.
Starting in the next few weeks, in collaboration with Experian, PowerSchool will provide notice to students (or their parents / guardians if the student is under 18) and educators whose information was involved, as well as a phone number to answer any questions you may have about the incident. The notice will include the identity protection and credit monitoring services offer [sic] (as applicable).
PowerSchool sent the information above on January 17. We expected PowerSchool to send more information, but as they have not, we want to inform the community of the latest now. We regret that they have not yet followed up with affected families and staff. We are still in communication with PowerSchool, and will share additional information as it becomes available.
Our students’, families’, and staff’s safety is paramount for us, and we are so sorry for any concern that this has caused.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to:
