Congratulations!!!! 1st Place Robotics Awards

Six students from Plank Junior High School participated in First Lego League (FLL) Robotics Competition in January, 2025. The FLL competition involves designing and building a robot, coding a robot to perform, and researching a project idea related to a game theme.

The Plank Octobots won the Robot Design Award, in December 2024 and qualified for the Batavia Sectional Tournament.  The Octobots finished in 1st place on the robot game table with a score of 405 points!  This is the highest score EVER received for a school district team. And The Octobots scored among the top 10 highest scores in the state.

The Octobots won 1st Place in Robot Performance Award, for earning the highest score on the game table. Additionally, The Octobots won 1st Place in Robot Design Award for having a robot with an innovative and robust design, as well as with creative and efficient programming.

Plank Reminders and Updates

FROM THE NURSE'S OFFICE

Cough Drops

The state of Illinois considers cough drops a medication and therefore the Nurse's Office must follow state rules and regulations for medications. This means that cough drops require a Medication Authorization Form with the doctor's signature. However, we can allow some alternatives. Students may have Mints or candy (ie. Lifesavers) and carry those through the day to help soothe an irritated throat and calm coughs. Students may also always carry a water bottle with them. Thank you for your understanding.

Yearly Physicals - FRESHMAN REQUIREMENTS

Does your student still need to get their yearly physical? If they get their physical now, it will qualify for next year's 9th grade requirement. Turn them in to the nurse now to avoid the hassle of gathering documents later!

Dental Exams - 6TH GRADE/NEW STUDENT REQUIREMENTS

Dental exams are also needed for our 6th grade Students and New Students to Illinois. Please schedule and turn in your student's dental exams, if you haven't done so already. Let us know if your student needs a blank copy of the Dental exam form and we can provide one. Thank you!

Respiratory Illnesses

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Respiratory Illness Dashboard has recorded four pediatric deaths this season from flu, COVID-19, and RSV, providing a stark reminder about the importance of vaccinations for children and of the risk of serious illness from these largely preventable seasonal illnesses. It takes about two weeks for vaccinations to provide their full level of protection.

With the increase in respiratory viruses, as well as norovirus, there are everyday actions to prevent and control transmission with these five steps:

  • Take steps for cleaner air
  • Cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting
  •  Hand washing
  • Wearing a mask/covering coughs
  • Vaccinations
