Happy Friday, Quail Families,

Did you know that our words have incredible power? They can build bridges, offer comfort, and inspire, but they can also hurt, exclude, and discourage. That's why we're excited to celebrate Words Matter Week!

Words Matter Week is a time dedicated to recognizing the impact of our language and promoting a culture of kindness and respect. It's a chance to reflect on how we communicate with each other – both online and in person – and to commit to using words that uplift and support.

At Quail Run, we believe that every student deserves a safe and kind learning environment where they feel valued and respected. During Words Matter Week, we'll be participating in activities linked here. These activities will help us explore the power of language, practice empathy, and strengthen our commitment to creating a positive and inclusive community for all.

We encourage you to join us in celebrating Words Matter Week! Talk with your family about the importance of kind words and how we can all contribute to a more supportive and welcoming environment. Let's work together to make Quail Run a place where everyone feels safe, respected, and empowered to learn and grow.

Wildfire Fundraiser Update

Yesterday,  with the support of a community member, 25 boxes with over 1,000 books and over 100 games were delivered to LA! 

The items were delivered to a school librarian’s house who is trying to rebuild her school’s library. She works at Fair Oaks School, a TK-8th grade school in Altadena. Unfortunately, their school buildings were lost in the fire. Here is some footage of their campus. 

While she was overwhelmed by the amount of donations, she was very appreciative of the generosity from our community. It’s great to know that those books will be in the hands of another school community! 

We still have hundreds more toys and games to transport and deliver. If you or someone you know are doing any future trips down to LA and would be willing to take any items, please let me know!

Quails Love Reading!
Quail Run’s 16th Annual Read-A-Thon

Jan 31 st – Feb 14th

Get ready to read your favorite books and help us raise funds that will help encourage and support literacy for all our Quail Run students! Your donations help us purchase books for the QR library and help teachers build their classroom libraries too!

Our Goal this year is $12,000.
We are pleased to announce that Read-a Thon.com will be sponsoring our RAT. Flyers, with all the details went home in this week’s Thursday folders. We encourage you to activate your student’s account today! The account you create will serve as a hub for recording and monitoring your child's progress as a Reader during the event, and for you to share their Read-A-Thon message with friends and family.

Quail Run PTA Needs You!

We have some crucial positions in the PTA opening up, which we need to fill in order to have the PTA next year!

Positions are:

President - Attending District meetings and hosting PTA meetings

Secretary - Taking minutes at PTA meetings

Communications - Sending PTA newsletters

Multicultural Night - May 2, 2025

Our school’s annual Multicultural Night is fast approaching, and we would love to invite you to get involved! 

This event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the diversity within our school community.

We’re looking for volunteers in the following areas:

Booths*: Display cultural artefacts, clothing, crafts, or share traditional dishes and snacks.

Music & Dance Performances: Help choreograph or perform traditional music, dance, or stage plays with our students.

Gale Ranch Maker's Fair 

Date: Saturday, March 8, 2025

Time: 11:00am-1:00pm

Location: Gale Ranch Middle School 

Open To: All Students, Parents, Teachers, and Dougherty Valley Community Members  

Gale Ranch Middle School will be hosting a Maker’s Fair, which is an event designed to showcase and celebrate the creativity and artistic skills of students. This fair provides a platform for students to create, display, and sell their handmade crafts while promoting a sense of pride, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit.  To sign up to participate in the Gallery Contest or Apply for a booth, please fill out this google form. All Grade levels are welcomed (TK-12) to apply and/or submit entries. Link here.

Yearbook Cover Contest

We are excited to invite all Quail Run students to participate in the contest for the front and back cover of the 2024-2025 yearbook! 

Theme: “Exploring the Past, Embracing the Future: 20 Years at Quail Run" 

Important Details:

- Each student may submit only one entry

- You can use any medium for your artwork, including markers, paint, crayons, colored pencils, oil pastels, etc.

All submissions MUST include these words:

- 2024-2025 

- Quail Run Elementary

- Exploring the Past, Embracing the Future: 20 Years at Quail Run

Requirements:

- 8.5”x11” size white paper

- Vertical orientation only 

- Write the artist’s name on the back in pencil only

- No licensed characters

Deadline: January 31, 2025!

We have just a few weeks left for the Regal Movie Ticket PTA Fundraiser, get yours today! Staff and Teacher Appreciation - Attention 2nd grade families     

We love our staff and teachers at Quail Run!  Let’s show our appreciation by fueling them with healthy and delicious snacks! Please help us stock their break room with the below items. Each month will be sponsored by a grade. February will be 2nd grade!   This month the teachers will be able to make their own Muesli/Yogurt with fun toppings!   Please bring in all snacks by Monday 2/3/25 until 9:00am to the front office (or hand to your child to bring in the morning) so we can set it up! Quail Run 20th Anniversary Gala! 

The 20th Anniversary Auction Gala is April 26, 2025! Learning Fund is looking for volunteers to reach out to businesses for donations and sponsors. If you would like to help, please reach out to Melissa Silva: melissa@honeytide.com. Please help us make the gala a success! It’s for our students!!

Intradistrict Transfers: New Closing Date for Requests (ES)

Each school year, the priority transfer “open enrollment” windows for intradistrict transfer requests (when a family requests that their child attend a school that is different from their assigned school of attendance) is as follows:

• December 15th to February 15th for middle and high schools
• February 1st to March 6th for elementary schools 

Traditionally, after the close of each “open enrollment” window, we have kept the transfer request forms open and posted until July 31st.

Moving forward, effective for all intradistrict transfer requests for the 2025-26 school year and in subsequent school years, the priority transfer windows will remain the same; however, we will only keep the forms open until May 1st of each year.
