Parent Update Friday, February 21, 2025 |
Dear SD 308 Community,
I hope you are all doing well! During this busy time of the year, I want to take a moment to share some upcoming opportunities with our academic community.
As mentioned in our last Parent Update, I encourage you to please consider attending or tuning into our next Board of Education meeting being held on Monday, February 24. This will be a great time to learn about our Strategic Plan on a deep level and therefore be informed of our vision for the next few years.
Additionally, this year's 5Essentials Survey is officially open. Please consider taking the time to share your input. We are looking for feedback from teachers, students, and families to create a well-rounded analysis of each of our schools. We are so grateful for and proud of each of our schools; this survey is the perfect time to celebrate the positives while also offering constructive recommendations for improvement. You will be able to find further information about 5Essentials later in this newsletter.
Thank you for your time and attention. Enjoy the weekend!
Take care, |

5Essentials Survey Information |
|
|
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) is conducting the 12th annual 5Essentials Survey, a statewide tool utilized to analyze five indicators that positively impact student success (Effective Leaders, Collaborative Teachers, Involved Families, Supportive Environments, and Ambitious Instruction).
From now through March 28, students, families, teachers, and other staff members will have the opportunity to complete a 30-minute research-based survey, providing feedback to help identify strengths and weaknesses of our district's learning environments. The results of this survey are highly valued. The information collected from 5Essentials allows us to make necessary adjustments and improvements in our schools, thus resulting in the best possible outcome for each of our students and staff members.
Please consider contributing your insights and experiences to this survey, which can be found at the link here. For additional information, refer to this flyer (Spanish) or the link below.

Attention Parents of Incoming Kindergarten Students! |
Registration is now open for kindergarten students who are new to Oswego Community Unit School District 308. Children will need to be 5 years of age by September 1, 2025 to register for kindergarten for the 2025-26 school year. Students who are currently enrolled in preschool at Brokaw Early Learning Center, Lakewood Creek Elementary School, Long Beach Elementary School, or Wolf’s Crossing Elementary School are considered “Returning Students” and therefore do not need to register for kindergarten at this time.
Incoming kindergarten students and their families are invited to join us for the Kinder-Quest Fair on March 11. This is a great opportunity to meet principals and district departments, get help with registration, turn in medical forms, explore the inside of a bus, and so much more! |
