| Dear Bayshore Community,
As we move through February, I am reminded of the strength, diversity, and compassion that define our wonderful community. This month offers us the opportunity to celebrate two significant cultural moments—Black History Month and the Lunar New Year—while also reflecting on the importance of kindness and unity in our ever-changing world. Celebrating Black History Month
February is a time to honor the achievements and contributions of African Americans throughout history. As a district that values diversity, we are committed to uplifting these stories not just this month, but every day of the year. Let us take this time to reflect on the resilience and brilliance of Black leaders past and present while inspiring our students to dream boldly for the future. Welcoming the Lunar New Year
This year marks the Year of the Snake, a time symbolizing wisdom, introspection, and renewal. The Lunar New Year is celebrated by many cultures across Asia, including Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean communities. We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate this vibrant holiday together as a community, fostering cultural appreciation among our students. Compassion in Changing Times
As we navigate an ever-evolving world, it is more important than ever to emphasize compassion in all that we do. Our district remains steadfast in its commitment to creating a safe, inclusive environment where every child feels valued and supported.
I wish you all a joyful February filled with learning, celebration, and connection! Thank you for being part of this incredible community. Your partnership is what makes our district a wonderful place to learn. Sincerely, Elizabeth Veal |

SoVoSo (From the Soul to the Voice to the Song) a Bay Area a cappella singing group entertained and educated our students on Wednesday, February 6, 2025 about Black History with an interactive show that demonstrated traditional slave songs and songs about Black leaders like Harriet Tubman. Students even had a chance to demonstrate their own beat boxing skills. Classroom Highlights
The main focus for social studies in 4th grade is California History. Students spend the year learning about all things California, from the Missions to the Gold Rush, to our government. One of the most important topics is that of the first Californians. Mrs. Young’s 4th graders demonstrated their learning about various California Native Tribes with clay dioramas illustrating how each tribe lived.

Hello Bayshore Families!
I’m excited to announce that the application for the Community School Implementation Grant was finalized and submitted last week. Thank you to everyone that gave input and feedback that helped in the development of this plan. We should know by May 2025 whether we will be a recipient of the funding which will span from Aug 2025 - June 2030. These funds will be used to address the barriers and gaps in performance that our students are experiencing (as highlighted in the asset & needs assessment and feedback we received from various interest holders).
Upcoming Events
The Bayshore School will be hosting another Family Night focused on supporting our students with challenging behavior. This session will focus on looking at aspects of the Whole Child that impact the behaviors displayed as well as strategies to minimize those situations. Please keep an eye out for the flyer and additional information for this event. Information for Families Know Your Rights Resources

If you have children aged 0 to 5 in your home, take a moment to get your kids signed up for the Imagination Library. This program is a collaboration of the San Mateo Libraries with Dolly Parton’s organization. By signing up, each child in your home will be given a book every month until their 5th birthday. Reading and literacy are important skills for our youth to develop and exposure to books is the first step to building their love of this crucial capability. [English] [Spanish]
We are always looking for parents to be a part of the Community School Advisory Team. Meetings take place on the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 3:30-4:30 pm. Click on the following link for more details: [English] [Spanish] [Chinese]. In order to ensure that all voices are represented within the Community Schools Implementation Plan, please consider joining us as your opinion is vital!
