Principal's Message

12.6.24

Dear Prairie Point Families:

Happy December! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and enjoyed some good food and memories. It will not be too long until we are leaving for Winter Break, which is hard to believe!

Today, we had students and staff from the HIKE (Heroes Invested in Everyday Kindness) program at OHS and OEHS come to provide an engaging workshop for 5th grade students. With 178 trained mentors, H.I.K.E. is one of the biggest events hosted by B.I.O.N.I.C, which involves OHS students spreading kindness and teaching students about the power their words hold. With fun games, kindness activities, and peer leadership, students learn about the power their words have on others. H.I.K.E. also provides a way for the elementary students to become closer with one another and learn the impact they have on the world. Most young people don’t understand their words’ effects, which can be detrimental to the mental health of others, so sometimes that extra, peer-taught reminder can be crucial.

Students in grades 2 - 5 will be taking the Fastbridge winter benchmark testing between 12/2 and 12/19.  Your child’s teacher will provide more specific dates on when testing will occur for your child.

Lastly, please remember morning drop off time begins at 8:45am.  Doors will not be open before that time.  With cold weather here, it is important for all students to stay in cars until staff releases them at 8:45am to come inside.

Once again, I wanted to thank our school community for your continued support and commitment. We hope that your family has a fantastic weekend.

Sincerely,

Noelle Fahey

Principal

Prairie Point Elementary is pairing up with the Kendall County Food Pantry to provide gifts for

local children this holiday season.

Thank you so much for your generosity.

Art Room

Calling all bakers!

The art room is in need of frosting containers! Perhaps your family needs an excuse to bake a cake.  Maybe your family already has some baking planned. Send any and all 16 oz. plastic frosting containers to the art room.  They are the perfect size for water cups, marker storage and passing out of materials.  Please be sure they are completely empty and clean before sending them to school with your child.

Thank you!

Mrs. Collins

Bonus at home art lesson!!

Bonus at home art lesson!!  (due Jan 16) Make your own Still Life!!

   1. Use real objects to look at.

   2. Draw in pencil. Look for tall and short, font and back, and overlapping.

   3. Color neatly and completely with whatever tools you have available.

   4. Write your REASONS for choosing each item on the back.

   5. Show to Mrs. Collins. If ALL directions are followed you will get to choose a water bottle sticker.

Example by Mrs. Collins:

“For my still life I chose mostly weaving tools because I enjoy weaving as a hobby.  The tall purple yarn on a cone is my favorite color.  The wooden things holding yarn are called shuttles and they help me weave.  The yellow circle on the right is a tape measure to help me measure my progress.  The little yellow bird was given to me by my mom a long time ago. It is a Goldfinch.”
