Parent Update Tuesday, January 28, 2025 |
Dear SD 308 Community,
I want to reaffirm to all families our district’s unwavering commitment to providing a safe and secure learning environment for all students. In times of uncertainty, when news headlines can spark fear, we hold firm to our shared values and recognize the importance of every student in our community. Our role remains steadfast—we are here to support and uplift our students, ensuring they know they are valued and protected.
As a district, we are legally prohibited from collecting or maintaining any student’s immigration records. Additionally, all student records are safeguarded under federal and state laws, requiring a court order for disclosure. While the likelihood of an immigration officer visiting our schools is low, our district and building leaders have received guidance from ISBE and our legal counsel on the proper procedures to follow. Only a criminal warrant, signed by a judge, would permit ICE agents to enter a school. Even in such cases, our building leaders have been directed to immediately contact district administration to involve legal counsel to verify the warrant and ensure proper handling.
To further support our students and families, we have provided staff with strategies to reinforce the welcoming and safe culture we have in our schools—especially for those experiencing fear or uncertainty. Above all, we want to reassure our students that our schools are places where they are safe, supported, and able to focus on learning.
If anyone has questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact your school's principal for additional information and resources.
We appreciate your continued partnership as we keep our focus on learning in schools where all students feel valued and loved. Take care, |

Hunt Club Casas Strengthen Community |
This school year, red, yellow, green, blue, and purple have become a prominent part of Hunt Club Elementary School’s otherwise blue, gray, and white color scheme. Students are forming relationships with peers they had never met before, and teachers are getting to know students from outside their own classrooms. Due to the nature of Hunt Club’s dual language and English-speaking programs, the two groups did not often cross paths in the past. Therefore, to foster a greater sense of unity in the building, each student and staff member has been made part of a “casa,” or house.

Attention Parents of Incoming Kindergarten Students! |
Registration is now open for kindergarten students who are new to Oswego Community Unit School District 308. Children will need to be 5 years of age by September 1, 2025 to register for kindergarten for the 2025-26 school year. Students who are currently enrolled in preschool at Brokaw Early Learning Center, Lakewood Creek Elementary School, Long Beach Elementary School, or Wolf’s Crossing Elementary School are considered “Returning Students” and therefore do not need to register for kindergarten at this time.
Incoming kindergarten students and their families are invited to join us for the Kinder-Quest Fair on March 11. This is a great opportunity to meet principals and district departments, get help with registration, turn in medical forms, explore the inside of a bus, and so much more! |
