Below are highlights from the Governing Board’s special meeting on October 10 (link to agendas and supporting documents). The Board’s intention in sharing these highlights is not to replace the minutes, which it will approve at an upcoming meeting. Public Comment:
One teacher and one community member expressed concern and disappointment with Resolution #2425-5:10-10.
Action Item
No approval of Resolution #2425-5:10-10, LLESD Emergency Regulations: President Heather Hopkins shared that the district had been advised that the emergency resolution was required to keep schools open in case of a strike. The resolution draft was a boilerplate document from ACSA, a statewide organization that supports school administrators across California and has experience with strikes. Superintendent Dr. Beth Polito confirmed that each piece of the resolution is already covered in Statute, so the resolution is not necessary. The board declined to approve the resolution and apologized to the teachers and community for the alarm and confusion that it caused.
The next regular board meeting is in Cano Hall at Las Lomitas on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 7:00 pm.
