October 11, 2024 Dear Thompson Families,
Happy Friday! Tonight we are excited to have fun with our Tigers at our annual Halloween Hangout - our Tigers will enjoy dancing, candy, a photo booth, and a haunted hallway! Please remember to pick up your child promptly at 7:30 PM. Bravo to the TOP Junior High band in the area, the amazing Thompson Band, for their incredible performances at the concert last night. The SD308 Food Drive starts next week, from October 15 through the 23rd. To meet our goal of 10,058 items, each student at Thompson would need to donate only $2. To have a chance at winning the big trophy, we would need each student to donate $4. More information will be in the body of the Tiger’s Tale below. We are off from school Monday in honor of Indigenous Peoples Day, but we will see everyone back at school on Tuesday October 15. Our Home and School Organization is meeting Tuesday night and we would love to see new members at our meeting - it starts at 6:00 PM. Geaux Tigers, Thompson Administration Mr. Marcus L. Lewis, Ed.S., Principal Mrs. Karen O’Connor, Asst. Principal Dr. LaTonya Davis, Asst. Principal

** How can my child best protect their belongings? Parents/guardians - we encourage you to have conversations with your student about bringing ONLY the items that are required/needed during school. Avoid carrying excessive amounts of money, items of sentimental or monetary value (including electronics like AirPods) to ensure it is not lost or damaged while at school. If students need to buy a lunch, you can simply load money in their e-wallet through PushCoin. Additionally, please have your student label their belongings (i.e. Chromebook charger, backpacks, water bottles, coats, etc..), so it is easier to return to students.
** No outside restaurant food or deliveries are allowed for students.** Attendance Reminder!
If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, please call the attendance line at 630-636-2601 in a timely manner. Please leave the following details in your message: Your name Your student's name Phone number you can be reached with any questions Reason for absence (including any symptoms, if out for illness).
Automated Attendance & Tardy Messages
Everyday automated attendance calls are sent out by the district at 9:30 AM, based on the attendance we have entered into the system by 9:15 AM. Additionally, automated tardy messages are sent out by the district to parents at 3:30 PM daily. If your student is marked tardy it means they were late to a class. You can check tardies and absences in PowerSchool. Please discuss with your student or their teacher for more information. |

Our Annual SD308 Food Drive is back! Thompson's Student Council will be collecting donations from Monday, October 15th through Wednesday, October 23rd to help fill the shelves of the Kendall County Community Food Pantry (KCCFP). We have a friendly competition with the other junior highs in the our district. Thompson's goal is to collect (and hopefully exceed) 10,058 items. In order to help supply the food pantry with food year-round, we are asking families to contribute to the pantry in cash donations. For every $1 we collect, the food pantry can purchase 8 food items. In order for us to reach our goal, each Thompson student would only need to bring in $2 each. In order for us to try and beat the other junior highs, each student would need to bring in $4 each. Either way, it is a win for our community!!!
We have 3 ways to meet (and exceed) this goal. -
Make an online donation, simply click here to make a secure online donation. Be sure to select "Thompson" as the school that you are supporting. (Anyone making online donations, can send in a paper receipt to the front office to get added points to the Penny Wars container for their grade level).
- Bring in Cash for Penny Wars. See details below on how Penny Wars works. The grade level with the most points wins cell phone usage during lunch on Thursday, Oct. 24th and Friday, Nov. 1st.
-
Bring in the following items...the KCCFP is always in need of the following non-food items: Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Deodorant, Feminine Products, Bars of Soap, Toilet Paper, Tissue Boxes, Dry Pet Food, Wet Pet Food, Cat Litter, Dish Soap, and
Disinfecting Wipes

Mental Illness Awareness Week: Oct 6-12
Mental Illnesses are disorders that can affect people's thinking, mood, or behavior. Anyone can experience mental health challenges. There are many early warning signs, but everyone is different. They could experience one, many, or none of the symptoms. Mental illnesses can develop as early as childhood. As of 2021, 1 in 7 10-19 year olds experience a mental disorder. Depression, anxiety, and behavioral disorders are the leading cause of illness and disability among adolescents and suicide is the 4th leading cause of death among 15-29 year olds. Do not let you or your loved ones become another statistic - 988 Lifeline is available, 24/7/365. Call or text 988. For more information and resources visit:
