November 1, 2024 Greeting Tigers Community,
We hope you had a fun Halloween - we loved seeing many of our Tigers in costume yesterday.
We would like to remind our community that student and staff safety is paramount in District 308 and at Thompson Junior High. For parents, families, and any car dropping or picking up students from school: all cars MUST use the parent drop-off/pick-up line between the hours of 7:35 AM to 8:05 AM, and after school between the hours of 2:45 and 3:20 PM. Students are not permitted to be dropped off in the Staff Parking Lot due to moving vehicles throughout the area. Thank you all for your support in keeping our Tiger community safe.
Next week we have school on Monday, but Tuesday is a non-attendance day due to election day. We would like to encourage all community members who are old enough to vote to please get out and vote! We will see students back at school on Wednesday of next week. Educationally, Thompson Administration Mr. Marcus L. Lewis, Ed.S., Principal Mrs. Karen O’Connor, Asst. Principal Dr. LaTonya Davis, Asst. Principal Mrs. Theresa Anderson, Asst. Principal SpEd |

** How can my child best protect their belongings? Parents/guardians - we encourage you to have conversations with your student about bringing ONLY the items that are required/needed during school. Avoid carrying excessive amounts of money, items of sentimental or monetary value (including electronics like AirPods) to ensure it is not lost or damaged while at school. If students need to buy a lunch, you can simply load money in their e-wallet through PushCoin. Additionally, please have your student label their belongings (i.e. Chromebook charger, backpacks, water bottles, coats, etc..), so it is easier to return to students.
** No outside restaurant food or deliveries are allowed for students.** Attendance Reminder!
If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, please call the attendance line at 630-636-2601 in a timely manner. Please leave the following details in your message: Your name Your student's name Phone number you can be reached with any questions Reason for absence (including any symptoms, if out for illness).
Automated Attendance & Tardy Messages
Everyday automated attendance calls are sent out by the district at 9:30 AM, based on the attendance we have entered into the system by 9:15 AM. Additionally, automated tardy messages are sent out by the district to parents at 3:30 PM daily. If your student is marked tardy it means they were late to a class. You can check tardies and absences in PowerSchool. Please discuss with your student or their teacher for more information. |

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Domestic violence impacts millions of people each year, but it can be prevented. The Domestic Violence Awareness Project is committed to promoting proactive trauma-informed efforts to shift the cultural rules, norms, and constructs that support gender-based violence and support the health and well-being of individuals, families, communities, and institutions. For DVAM 2024, the Domestic Violence Awareness Project is building on the theme Heal, Hold & Center, first launched in 2023. This DVAM and beyond, we must work together, embrace the many cultural ways we can heal from violence and oppression, commit to holding space for survivors, and center those most marginalized in all of our efforts to end domestic violence. As we heal, hold, and center survivors, especially those navigating anti-Blackness and other systems of oppression, we remain grounded in the knowledge that there is no survivor justice without racial justice.
For resources or more information please visit - https://www.dvawareness.org/HealHoldCenter The National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 / TTY 1-800-787-3224 or the StrongHearts Native Helpline at 1−844-762-8483 (call or text) are available to assist you. |

The Care Closet is ready to help if you are in need. WHAT is the Care Closet? The care closet provides relief to students and their families who are experiencing hardships; food insecurity, lack of weather appropriate clothing, basic hygiene supplies, school supplies, etc. WHO gets to use it?
This is a FREE resource provided to students with items you may not be able to afford. While this is offered to all students, the intent is to share these items with students and families that truly can not purchase them on their own.
Will everyone know that I am using the Care Closet? NO! The use of the Care Closet is confidential! HOW does it work?
Click here to fill out our Google Form with your student's ID#. Your items will be available for pick up in the main office by the following day! No Phone? No problem! Contact your counselor or the main office for a form! |
