Good Afternoon, GPE Families,
We’ve had a short but action-packed week full of learning and fun! Our district leadership team has put together brief video overviews of the elementary curriculum. You can access the document by clicking HERE. We’re excited to share some upcoming events with you: -
Culver’s Night – On Tuesday, September 10th, join us for our first Culver’s Night of the year at the Plainfield location. Drop by anytime between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., and remember to mention Grande Park Elementary. 25% of the proceeds will go directly back to our school!
-
Multilingual Family Engagement Night – Also on September 10th, our English Learning Department will host our first Multilingual Family Engagement Night from 5-6 p.m. at Grande Park. This is a great opportunity for families to connect and engage. (See the flyer below for more details.) We hope to see you there!
-
PTA Read-A-Thon Fundraiser – Mark your calendars for Friday, September 13th, from 5-7 p.m. at Grande Park Elementary, when we kick off our PTA Read-A-Thon Fundraiser. This year’s theme, “See Yourself in a Book,” is all about inspiring a love of reading while raising funds to support our school community.
As the school year gets underway, I’d like to remind everyone of our safety and security procedures for parents and visitors. You can review them by clicking HERE. Additionally, our crossing guards kindly ask that all families use the crosswalks when walking to and from school. Ensuring the safety of our students and community is our top priority.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely, Sean Smith Principal |

Dear Parent/Guardians,
This letter provides information about our district’s benchmarking assessment for the 2024-2025 school year, FastBridge Learning®. The Formative Assessment System for Teachers (FAST) is a set of reading and math assessments that teachers use to measure student learning. FAST scores provide information to teachers to help each student grow throughout the academic year.
Oswego Community School District 308 will use the following two FastBridge Learning® assessments with students in grades 1st - 9th, three times per year.
aReading (Adaptive Reading) is a computer-administered adaptive measure of broad reading that is individualized for each student, but may be individually or group administered for approximately 15-30 minutes. Items assess a variety of skills including concepts of print, phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension, and vocabulary. The type of questions and response format is similar to many state-wide assessments (i.e., multiple choice, fill in the blank).
aMath (Adaptive Math) is a computer-administered adaptive measure of broad mathematics that is individualized for each student, but may be individually or group administered for approximately 15-30 minutes. Items assess a variety of skills including: counting and cardinality, operations and Algebraic thinking, number and operations in base ten and fractions, measurement and data, geometry, ratios and proportions, the number system, expressions and equations, functions and statistics and probability. The type of questions and response format is similar to many state-wide assessments (i.e., multiple choice, fill in the blank).
The teachers review benchmarking scores following the testing. Once testing is complete, communication will be sent to parents when the student scores are available.
If you have questions about your child’s benchmark scores, please contact your child’s teacher. We look forward to working with your child and you during this school year! Kaitlin Lazansky Assistant Principal Grande Park Elementary klazansky@sd308.org 630-551-9711 |
