Dear Las Lomitas Community,
After a full day of fact-finding and bargaining yesterday, the district and LLEA (teachers union) remain at an impasse. The next step is for the neutral party (appointed by the Public Employment Review Board) to draft a report with comprehensive salary and benefits data as well as a recommended settlement.
The district is working with the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) to prepare for a potential strike so that we may keep schools open. ACSA will provide a curated list of credentialed educators who can substitute teach. The district’s program during this time would provide students with supervision, safety and academic enrichment opportunities during regular school hours. It would not, however, mirror a typical educational day.
Here is a potential timeline:
Monday, October 7: Both parties review the draft report. Typically, the parties will continue bargaining for up to ten days following the release of the draft report.
Around Wednesday, October 9: The final report is available to both parties.
Around October 17: The LLEA may implement work action (e.g. a strike). The parties can continue to bargain after this date.
We’ll continue to provide updates to the community about bargaining discussions. The district values our teachers enormously and hopes to come to an agreement that supports our students, staff and the fiscal health of our district.
