Message from Principal Pawlicki

Hello JR. Redhawk Families,

We have had a great week here at Campo!

Here are some of the highlights and upcoming events:

California Native American Day: California Native American Day is a state holiday honoring the culture, contributions, and history of Native American tribes in California, observed annually on the fourth Friday of September.

Fall Festival: Our upcoming Fall Festival is happening on November 1st. Please look for correspondence coming home on these activities. We are accepting candy donations this month in the front office.

School Supply Drive: Please see our DonorsChoose link to help support our students and staff with school supplies.

Healthy Eating Reminders: Our district has a nutrition policy to encourage healthy eating habits. Please limit candy and soda in your student’s lunch.

Phone Use: Just a reminder that cell phone use is restricted on campus. If a student has a phone and would like to use it, they can come to the office to do so.

Redhawk Friday: Be sure to wear your Redhawk Red or Redhawk Gear on Fridays! Here is the link to purchase swag if you are interested:

Volunteers: If you would like to be a part of the PTA or volunteer on campus, please fill out the interest form below. A PTA can have such a positive impact on a school and we would love some support starting one. Please make sure to pick up a Volunteer Application in the front office. Volunteers need to complete the application, provide a current form of identification and a current TB test.

Make-Up Picture Day: Monday, October 7th is make-up picture day and the last day to get pictures taken for the yearbook.

Friday’s Attendance : Friday’s attendance is really suffering, please make sure your student is here on Fridays to participate in class parties, Friday fun activities, and our character card store.

Attendance: To report an absence, please go on to our Campo Elementary Website:

https://ca.meusd.org/Report-An-Absence/index.html

Responsibility: Our monthly focus for October is "Responsibility". Students will be reading books and talking about responsibility for themselves and others.

Please encourage your child to Lead with Kindness at school! We are going to have a great year!

California's Native American Day

Thank you to Native Students in Mrs. Dabelstein's 1st grade class for sharing their art and more about their culture with their classmates this week.

Mrs. Alves' 4th grade class also watched a talk from California State Assemblyman James Ramos who provided us a lesson on Native music. They then had Jackie Tahuka Nunez bring a virtual program to our classroom. She is a storyteller who told us a story about a little girl who was different. Through stories children learn how to be in the world. Her story explained how it's not okay to make fun of people and that it's okay for people to be different. After that, one of my students told us some fascinating things about being Native American. The students loved learning new information from her.

Hispanic Heritage Month

Our 4th Grade classes kicked off our Hispanic Heritage Month celebration by learning about "paleteros". Students read the Paletero Man story and then had an opportunity to sample different flavors of paleteros together thanks to a parent donation of authentic paleteros!

Sea Otters Up Close

On Thursday morning, Campo Elementary students joined in on a Zoom video event from San Diego Sea World animal trainers and their very special guest stars, sea otters! Students watched as Sea World animal trainers feed and cared for the sea otters in real time!

Character Counts Assembly

This month we focused on "Respect" as part of our Character Counts program. Congratulations to the students selected by their teachers for showing tremendous "Respect" this month!
