Message from Superintendent Dr. Beth Polito

Alternate text

Dear LLESD Families,

Thank you to our Las Lomitas Education Foundation for hosting another fantastic fundraising event on May 4. It was a huge success, and everyone had a great time.

Recently, Joyce Massoro, our Director of Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation, Board President Heather Hopkins, and I met with the new Atherton Town mayor and Manager. Our meeting agenda included moving the traffic light to Camino del Lago project. For safety reasons, we requested that the Town expedite their timeline if possible. We also discussed Flood Mitigation solutions to benefit the schools and a long-term diversion attempt.

As a reminder, three of our five trustee positions (currently occupied by Trustees Morimoto, Winikoff, and Moon) will be up for election/re-election in November. These positions play a vital role in shaping the future of our district and we hope you’ll consider running.

We are hosting two board-candidate information sessions for anyone interested in serving on the LLESD School Board. These sessions will provide valuable insights into the responsibilities and expectations of a board member.

The sessions will be held on:

  • Wednesday, May 29, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, at the District Office
  • Thursday, May 30, 2024, via Zoom from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm.

Responsibilities of the school board include:

  • Set the district’s strategic vision, which helps ensure that there is always a true-north, multi-year road map for the district
  • Oversee the budget and ensure that the district spends community taxpayer dollars responsibly
  • Focus on governance (the “what” of the district) while deferring to staff for the day-to-day operations (the “how”)
  • Manage the superintendent, including her goals
  • Advocate for public education on behalf of students

Thank you for being valued partners in your child’s education.

Best,

Dr. Beth Polito

Superintendent

In November, three of our five trustee positions (currently occupied by Trustees Morimoto, Winikoff, and Moon) will be up for election/re-election. Please consider whether you or someone you know might be a good fit for board service.

We’re holding Info Sessions on Wednesday, May 29, at 10:00 am (in person at the District office) and on Thursday, May 30, at 3:30 pm (via Zoom).
