A Note From Mrs. Stoffers |
|
|
| Hello and welcome to the 2024-2025 school year!
I cannot believe the summer is coming to a close and the school year is quickly approaching. For those of you who do not know me yet, my name is Elisabeth Stoffers and I am the principal at Hunt Club.
If you are new to Hunt Club, welcome! Please reach out to myself or Robert Hauge, our Assistant Principal, with any questions you may have. We are so happy you are here and part of our family. Our office staff, Mrs. Zikmund and Mrs. Bustamante, are available and happy to help with any questions you may have, so please don’t hesitate to call or email.
At Hunt Club we like to begin each year with a fresh start and a fun theme! This year's theme is centered about building a stronger community. A lot of this work will be centered around our “Casas” and the wider community we will be building through the intentional combining of students from our Dual Language and Monolingual classrooms. Please see below on more information on Casas. This newsletter is filled with all the information you need to start the year as a incoming kindergartener, new student to Hunt Club, or returning student. I know it is packed full, so please read all the way down to the bottom!
As we are busy preparing at school, I know you are prepping at home. Here are few helpful tips that we have seen benefit all students: *Label all items that come to school so that if it gets lost, we can return the item to the appropriate person.
*Avoid sending students to school with valuable items. *If you plan to send your child with a cold lunch, make sure they can open everything you send. While we will have teachers in the cafeteria to help, your child will be able to enjoy their lunch quicker if they can open it independently. *Phones and devices with the ability to play games or call/text (watches) must be turned off and kept in school backpacks during school hours and on school grounds.
*For transportation changes that are different from your student's normal schedule, send your child with a note in their backpack or for last-minute changes, notify the office (not the teacher) by either emailing hcstudentattendance@sd308.org or calling the office at 630.636.2800.
*If you move or have a phone number or email address that needs updating, please communicate that to the office so that we have the correct information on your student's profile. Follow our website and facebook page for events and important information.
In addition to these tips, I know there are many questions and uncertainties about the upcoming year...especially incoming kinder and new students. I hope to answer many of your questions with this newsletter. Please don't hesitate to reach out to myself or our office staff to answer any questions you may have.
On our first day we will have our red carpets rolled out ready to meet and greet each student. We are VERY excited for our new goals and initiatives this year and hope to create a memorable and successful year for all students. |

| CASAS at Hunt Club-Building a Stronger Community |
One of the challenges we have faced, as a school community, is bringing together our Dual Language and Monolingual students. Year after year, no matter the interventions and approaches we have tried, we still see a divide between the students in DL and Mono. Our School Leadership Team came together to think outside the box to come up with a solution to build a stronger community. With the support of all staff, we are going to be incorporating Houses or “Casas” into our school community. Students will attend Specials as well as receive SEL instruction in their Casa. Their Casa will be a mix of students across the grade level, Dual Language and Monolingual Students. Students will develop responsibility, a culture of belonging, character, and a dose of healthy competition through our schools Casa System. There will be 5 Casas:
Red-Courageous Blue-Dreamer Purple-Truth Teller Green-Motivator Yellow-Advocate
Each student will be a valued member of their Casa. Together they will earn points for their Casas as they are respectful, responsible, and safe. Students will be motivated by earning points for their Casas and each week we will celebrate the Casa who has earned the most points. Make sure you keep an eye on our Hunt Club Cougar in the front of the building each week, as he will be wearing something new to celebrate the Casa with the most points at the end of the week.
Students will find out their Casa on the first day of school, so make sure you ask your child which Casa in which they belong. We are VERY excited to build a stronger community and have a lot of fun in the process.

The world is changing quickly and we want to do everything we can to help students be successful in school and life. We are excited to tell you that we will be using a program called PurposeFull People this year. This program teaches skills that will help students be successful in school and in life. We believe that students should have safe, predictable places to learn where they feel included. Students should have healthy and helpful connections with teachers and classmates. They should also experience learning that will help them tackle challenges inside and outside of school. PurposeFullPeople is more than a set of lessons - it is a partnership between schools and families to create a place where students feel like they belong and learn skills that will help them be the best they can be!
Purposefull People has three main goals for students: Be Kind, Be Strong, and Be Well. ● Be Kind: Social skills like listening, friendship, solving conflicts, and leadership. These skills are taught alongside Empathy, Respect, & Cooperation ● Be Strong: Skills that help students focus, stay organized, and set goals. These skills are taught alongside Responsibility, Courage, & Perseverance
● Be Well: Skills that help students handle their emotions and deal with stress. These skills are taught alongside Gratitude, Honesty, & Creativity
This year, you’ll be invited to join the fun! We will send letters home about the skills and strengths being taught each month. Each letter will include some ways to build these skills at home, discussion starters, and fun challenges you can try with your family. The path forward is full of growth! We cannot wait to partner with you in this work… ● To teach students how to build strong friendships ● To work together to solve problems, big and small ● To grow skills for life ● To become PurposeFull People |
