Boulder Hill Dual Language Pen Pals Campus Visit to the University of Illinois
The Campus Visit was a huge success! Mrs. Farries, Mrs. Guerra and Ms. Lopez took 34 Dual Language students and parents to visit their Pen Pals at the University of Illinois Champaign Urbana.
Our Bobcats participated in Science activities such as creating simple circuits to produce electricity, and learned about photosynthesis. While our Bobcats had fun with their PenPals, their parents attended a Parent University Forum and learned about financial opportunities like loans, grants, scholarships, etc., to make their kids’ college dream a reality. Our parents also had the opportunity to ask questions about financial aid and college programs. These forums were offered both in English and in Spanish.
A HUGE thank you to our SHPE University students for having us, and taking the time to plan a wonderful day for our kids and parents. Thank you for being positive role models for our students and showing our kids and parents que ¡Sí Se Puede! Another thank you to our staff, Mrs. Farries, Mrs. Guerra and Ms. Lopez, Mrs. Marroquín and Mrs. Jones for attending the trip. #SiSePuede #SiLoHicimos #WeTookOurKidsToCollege

School Safety Drills
To ensure safety standards are maintained and improved upon, we consistently conduct safety drills for emergencies as required by Illinois state law.
Staff are trained to use ALICE proactive options-based strategies. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate, which provides our staff with the tools and guidance to handle a violent intruder.
We hope all students will participate in non-threatening drills with staff, however new state law (Aug., 2021) allows students to be “opted-out” of active participation in armed intruder safety drills through the written notification of their parent/guardian. Please see attachment for more information. |

| IMPORTANT PARKING & SAFETY REMINDERS Every student’s safety is important to us. It is our priority to maintain systems and procedures that ensure students arrive and are dismissed in a safe and orderly manner. We ask everyone to follow the established procedures. Failure to do so causes confusion and an unsafe environment for our students and families.
Here are some reminders that have been previously communicated. - All members of the Bobcat family should follow the directions of the staff.
-
Cars parked on the residential streets should: (1) park behind coned areas; (2) avoid blocking residence
driveways. - Cars should not block bus parking lot entry.
- Cars should not make u-turns. U-turns are prohibited on Boulder Hill Pass.
-
Parents who park in the church parking lot must cross at the cross walk supervised by the crossing
guard. Do Not walk through the bus crossing lot.
