Kindergarten Registration 2 days remaining ! |

|
|
We are off to a good start with Kindergarten Registration. I'm happy that many of our families were able to come out and register on Thursday. There are two more scheduled days left. If you have not, please come out and register! Kindergarten registration is finally here.
Kindergarten registration directly impacts staffing; so we encourage all families that will have a student entering kindergarten this fall to please register early. Please see the attachments below for more information. Here's some dates for you to know: (You can attend either date) - Tuesday, February 20th (Grande Park, Old Post, Prairie Point, Wolfs Crossing)
- Thursday, February 22nd (Fox Chase, Hunt Club, Long Beach)
Please note, we welcome any family to attend any session. Families do not need to attend their Home School assigned date, however, this is highly encouraged. Students currently attending Brokaw or a Satellite Early Childhood location do not need to attend one of these sessions. |

SD308 Curriculum Audit
(Please see flyer in attachments below) Oswego Community Unit School District 308 has contracted with an external evaluation team from CMSi to complete a Curriculum and Systems Audit. The study includes a comprehensive evaluation of the school district's work in delivering learning to students. The evaluation team will be on site March 4-7 visiting schools, observing classrooms, and speaking with some staff, parents, and students. However, they will not be able to meet directly with everyone in the district, so they have also prepared an online survey to gather information.
Below you will find a link to a simple online survey open to all parents of SD 308. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey so your opinion can be represented. All answers will remain anonymous, and survey information is only reported from all respondents together, not from individuals. The report that will be provided to the district will include input from across all schools and all levels. Please complete this survey by February 29th.
While this survey is open during the same window of time that the 5Essentials survey is being conducted across the state, please note that this survey is different, and only being collected for use by the CMSi evaluation team for the benefit of SD 308.
We appreciate your participation, and value your feedback and input in this process of research to shape future improvements. SD 308 Curriculum and System Audit- PARENT SURVEY Encuesta para padres sobre auditoría de sistemas y planes de estudios (PARENT SURVEY SPANISH) |
Important Safety Reminders for Arrival/Dismissal
I have received calls from and spoken with the Highway Commissioner's office of Oswego Township regarding residential complaints due to Boulder Hill families parking violations and unsafe practices. Please refer to Ordinance # 23-69 linked here regarding parking violations
. We will continue to work with the local authorities and municipalities to help us make Boulder Hill safe for our students, staff and the school community. The safety of our students and families are of the utmost importance. You play an important role in helping to ensure the safety of our students and families
. Parent(s)/guardian(s) you are the first teacher for your child. Staff & concerned families have reported that some of our Bobcats families are doing the following: walking through the bus parking lot and not crossing at the cross walk that is supervised by a staff member; making u-turns on Boulder Hill Pass; letting student out of the vehicle on Boulder Hill Pass; parking on Boulder Hill Pass impeding the flow of the drop-off/pick-up lines; driving through stop sign and more recently blocking the driveway of Boulder Hill residents. This is not safe!
Some important reminders: - Safety First!
- Cross at the crossing walks that have the safety staff assigned.
- No U- turns on Boulder Hill Pass
- Follow 20 mph speed limit on Boulder Hill Pass during arrival/dismissal
- Do not drop off students on Boulder Hill Pass.
- No Parking on Boulder Hill Pass
- Follow driving rules/regulations/ordinances; including but not limited to parking, speed limits and stop signs

Parent Focused Group We want to thank the families that joined the Parent Focus Group on February 13th. Our topic was "What is important to our school community?" Some points that came from this conversation were: -
Finding ways for families to connect with each other. One idea was to create a parent directory.
- Creating opportunities for our 4th grade students & 5th grade leaders to share their voice and assit with younger grades, help monitor and patrol halls and during recess, plan events and problem solve issues.
- Create a parent volunteer sign-up so that parents can help during lunch/recess, in the library, etc.
-
School safety and climate issues: such as behavior, parent parking inappropriately and not following speed limit or safety signage.
- Kindergarten!
It was a great discussion and I am looking forward to more. Parent Focus Groups will occur prior to PTA meetings. We will have our next Parent Focus Group on Tuesday, April 9th @ 6:00 PM. The main discussion question for this meeting will be "What currently exists for school safety and school climate? What more can we do to improve school safety and school climate?"
We will address the issues that were shared at our February meeting, share what structures are in place, and hear from you in what ways we can improve. Please enter through the main entrance door #1 at the front of the building.
Light Refreshments will be served. Childcare will be provided for the Parent Focus Group meetings and PTA meetings. |
Ants & Smell in the gymnasium update
The following updates were shared with families regarding the issues we experienced with ants and a foul smell in the gymnasium.
We would like to provide you with an update on the smell issue in the gym area. We have resolved the issue. The smell was coming from a drain, which has been flushed. Our students' and staff's safety is our top concern. To ensure that there were no safety hazards, our Engineering Department used equipment to test the air and found no issues. Air purifiers were added to the space to assist with the smell dissipation. Today, no smells have been reported. In addition, the ants' entry point has been covered, and the existing ants have been exterminated.
Thanks for your continued partnership, and have a great long weekend! Toia Jones Principal |

COVID & Health Updates SD 308 follows the CDC isolation and safety precautions for individuals who have COVID. This still includes isolation for the first 5 days, and masking days 6-10. The calculator on the CDC website
can be very helpful. Return to school when symptoms have improved and fever free for 24 hours without medication (after isolation ends on day 5). When in school, masking is expected for days 6-10, if unable to mask, isolation continues days 6-10. PLEASE NOTE:
Exposure to COVID does not require isolation or masking; however, the CDC calculator above does provide guidance for exposure as well, including to test 5-7 days after known exposure. COVID is now treated with the same approach that other contagious conditions follow- just follow the guidelines for the condition.
Please consider taking steps to help keep our SD308 community healthy with daily hygiene practices and by having your seasonal immunizations, including Flu, RSV and COVID! |
