| Interim Superintendent Update |

|
Dear Auburn Union School District Parents, Staff & Community Members, |
As we move forward together, it's important to keep you informed about the ongoing developments within our district. We're committed to transparency and collaboration. Below, you'll find a brief overview of recent and upcoming events and initiatives. For those who seek more detailed information, we have included more information in the district updates section of this newsletter.
Negotiations Update: On Monday, March 18, 2024, AUSD engaged in mediation with the Auburn Union Teachers Association (AUTA) as part of our commitment to settle the 2023/2024 negotiations. Although an agreement was not reached on this day, we remain optimistic and look forward to our next meeting in April 2024. Our dedication to creative solutions and positive outcomes continues to guide us.
TK/K Round-Up Events: We're thrilled to announce the TK/K Round-Up events scheduled for April at Skyridge, Auburn Elementary, and EV Cain. These events offer families an opportunity to gather essential information about our Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten programs, assistance with enrollment, and tips for a successful start to school. We encourage interested families to join us for these informative sessions.
Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP): The LCAP is a strategic three-year plan that outlines our goals, actions, services, and expenditures to support student success. The development of this plan is a collaborative effort, requiring input from our entire community, including teachers, staff, parents, students, and other stakeholders. We are dedicated to engaging all community members in this process, ensuring that our plans reflect the diverse needs of our students.
Upcoming Meetings: -
LCAP Parent Advisory Committee Meeting: Scheduled for April 8, 2024, at the district office. This committee plays a vital role in reviewing and commenting on the LCAP.
- Community Engagement Meeting: Scheduled for April 22, 2024, from 5:00 pm- 6:00 pm, this meeting is an opportunity for all community members to discuss and provide feedback on the LCAP.
Superintendent Search: Our search for a new AUSD Superintendent is in progress. The position is widely advertised, and community input is actively sought through surveys and focus group sessions. A special closed-session meeting to finalize the top candidates is planned for April 17.
Recognition of Excellence: Each year, the Board of Trustees honors staff, students and parents at a regularly scheduled meeting. Several outstanding members of our community were honored for their dedication to education, including staff members Aaron Kinz and Janet DuFour, student Yaretzi Soto, and parent Eun Lech from Auburn Elementary. Their contributions exemplify the spirit of excellence we strive for in our district.
California Healthy Kids Survey: Our commitment to a safe and healthy environment for our students is unwavering. The California Healthy Kids Survey, taken by students in 5th, 6th, and 7th grade, provides valuable insights into school climate, safety, and student well-being. The results will guide our efforts to enhance support programs and initiatives. As we continue this journey together, your involvement, feedback, and support are invaluable. We look forward to building a brighter future for our students, hand in hand with each of you.
Sincerely, |
Interim Superintendent

| AUSD Board Meeting Update Board of Trustees President, Greg Holt |
| |
Good Afternoon AUSD Families,
Last week, we had three meetings: a Special Board Meeting regarding Board Governance on 3/11, a Special Board Meeting on 3/13 to continue our February 14 Regular Board Meeting, and our 3/13 Regular Board Meeting. On 3/11, the Board approved a job description for principals, approved an amended instructional calendar for next year, and approved the Board Developed Strategic Plan. The Board also discussed changes to Board Policy — including a move to a per diem for meals when on official travel rather than itemized receipts — but adopted no changes. Any Board Policy adoption will occur in a Regular Meeting.
On 3/13, the Board reviewed the 2023-2024 First Interim Report from the Placer County Office of Education (PCOE) during our Special Board Meeting, and during the Regular Board Meeting the Board received updates on the Superintendent Search, the TK-8 Transition, the City of Auburn’s General Plan, and Auburn Elementary School. The Board adopted resolutions to reduce both certificated and classified staff, and approved the Second Interim Budget Report following a presentation. The Board had the pleasure of congratulating a student, a volunteer, a classified employee, and a teacher from Auburn Elementary School for their outstanding impact: Yaretzi Soto, Auburn Elementary School’s Student Body President; Eun Lech, a dedicated volunteer; Janet DuFour, a 30 year veteran office clerk; and Aaron Kinz, fifth grade robotics and Project Lead the Way lead teacher trainer.
Please see the District’s YouTube channel to view our Regular Meeting in full, and see our Board agendas online for a full list of items we discussed and approved.
Best Regards,
|

The LCAP is a three-year plan that describes the goals, actions, services, and expenditures to support positive student outcomes that address state and local priorities. California uses the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) to determine how schools are funded. Districts determine how to spend funds to best meet students’ needs; involvement and input from teachers, staff, administrators, parents, students, and community members is required in making decisions about how funds are spent. The final plan for achieving goals and spending funds is the Local Control and Accountability Plan.
One key aspect of the LCAP process is the engagement of all community members. Staff, teachers, administrators, bargaining partners, community members, parents/guardians and students — including foster youth, homeless, and those from low-income and English learner communities — are to be consulted to provide feedback on the plan. AUSD will continue to hold LCAP Parent Advisory Committee meetings. Our next scheduled meeting will be held on April 8, 2024 at the district office. The parent advisory committee has been established per California Education Code 52062 and 52063, to review and comment on the LCAP. Information can be found on our website.
AUSD will hold a community engagement meeting to discuss the LCAP on April 22, 2024 from 5:00 pm- 6:00 pm. We would love to hear from you–please take a few moments to fill out our survey. |

California Healthy Kids Survey |
|
Our district is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for your children to learn, grow and thrive. Every year, students in 5th, 6th, and 7th grade, take the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS). This survey measures school climate, engagement, safety, and risk behaviors students may currently face. District administrators and staff will analyze survey results to determine what programs and supports might be instituted to best continue our commitment to providing a safe and healthy environment for your children.
Students who returned permission slips will be taking the survey through March 22nd. Permission slips were sent home with students in February.
Parent input is also a crucial part of a healthy school campus; in fact, parent engagement is a specific priority in Auburn Union’s Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). The California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) offers a Parent Survey, which we are asking all parents to take. This is an opportunity for parents to provide important feedback to District administration.
The CHKS Parent Survey links for each school site are below. Thank you for your time and support of the Auburn Union School District.

Academic Outreach Begins at EV Cain!
Students are engaging in Academic Outreach by working with teachers to complete missing assignments and getting assistance in any subject! Snacks are served around 3:00 pm and not only are students increasing their academics, they are working with others and having fun! Who knew you could have fun and do school work at the same time! Academic Outreach is held on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays after school. We had 30 students attend on Thursday, and that’s been our highest attendance yet! Keep it up, Wildcats!

EV Cain students are participating in a spring fundraiser which started this past Monday, March 11th and ends on March 20th, with all students participating in the “Color Run” during lunch. Students hope to achieve a goal of raising $10,000 for end of the year events, field trips, assemblies, and more.
Ron James Visits EV Cain for the 2nd School-Wide Assembly of the Year!
This past Tuesday, students were excited to hear about all about leadership from Ron James and Tameka! Students were all ears when the students in the first picture shared their takeaways from the event: “Remember everyone has a story”, “Everyone is going through something”, “I gained confidence that I didn’t know I had”, to name a few. In the middle, student leaders get the group excited about the event, and Ron James and Tameka teach the students that everyone is a leader. They will be back in June for the last assembly to send our 8th graders off to an amazing first year of high school and to prepare our 6th and 7th graders for a most fantastic 2024-2025 school year!

Skyridge Elementary Update |
|
It’s always a great day to be a Skyridge Falcon! This past month we experienced a “Snow Day” Small & Tall Ball as well as an amazing performance of “Munchkin Mediation” presented by our Drama Club. Celebrating 100 days of school was a milestone we all enjoyed - we have come so far! A significant highlight was the visit from the Auburn Symphony, made possible by the Auburn Education Foundation. We were excited to learn that the very first “Symphony Goes to School” presentation was in fact, held on our campus 25 years ago in 1999. What a wonderful offering this is for our student body! There is nothing quite like the gift of music.
We are always looking for ways to expand our students' learning opportunities. Skyridge hosts many clubs including Mornings in the Makerspace, Dance Club, Drama Club, Spanish Club, Homework Help Club and Creative Writing Club. We are also actively looking for someone to help us run a Chess Club as well. Another fantastic Skyridge offering is our Trekkers Club. Trekkers meet on Thursday mornings to begin their day with a run or walk with friends. Our monthly SOARing Student Assemblies are a highlight for students, staff and families alike. We have also been working on improving our attendance with the “Be Here” challenge. We are looking forward to our Family Science Night, Talent Show and ELAC meeting all happening in March. |
