A Message from Principal Alain Camou

Dear Las Lomitas Families,

It is hard to believe that May is already upon us. There are many exciting events happening between now and the end of the year. Our Book Fair just wrapped up and it peaked with a well-attended Family Night on Wednesday. While we had four guest readers, including Roary, in the library sharing their favorite stories, it was no doubt the sprinklers going off around 6:00 pm that stole the show. Several children were having unbridled fun running through the sprinklers. For those of you impacted, my apologies to the interior of your cars, but you can't stop that kind of joy!

DEIAB Update

May celebrates the character trait of GOOD ATTITUDE. The list of books curated by our librarian, Mrs. Davis, are available in our library to check out and linked in the document if you'd like to purchase them.

April was a busy month of celebrations. COMPASSION was our character trait and we tied that to Earth Day and our Las Lomitas Land Acknowledgment. We acknowledged Autism Acceptance Day and proudly displayed the Disability Pride flag on our front gate. We celebrated Arab Heritage Month by learning about the Arab culture from staff and students. Although many of our young Muslims do not fast during Ramadan, our library was open at lunch during this Holy Month to provide space away from the lunch tables if any children were fasting.

May brings to us Asian American and Pacific Islander month as well as Jewish American Heritage month. Last week, we had staff and students share about their Jewish culture and teach the school about Passover. I even learned from a first grader the tradition of the afikomen and how excited she was to find it.

LLEF Auction Venue Change

I'm looking forward to our Viva Las Lomitas event tomorrow night, May 4. A reminder to parents and community members who are attending that due to the forecast of rain, the venue has changed to the La Entrada Gymnasium ((2200 Sharon Road, Menlo Park).

Dance Festival is Coming!

The Dance Festival is nearly here! Please see below for some helpful tips.

Please have your children arrive before 8:15
The Dance Festival begins at 8:35
The front gate will close after arrival and will reopen at 8:25 to allow parents and families in
- No one, other than staff and students will be allowed in before 8:25
- This will help us in getting the students in their appropriate positions
Parking, as always at events like this, will be at a premium
- Lane 1 closest to the school office on the Alameda side and the bus lane on the Camino al Lago side will be available for parking at 8:20
- Please observe posted parking restrictions in the neighborhood and do not block or park in driveways, let's be good neighbors

Join the Fun | Volunteer for the Las Lomitas PTA

Volunteer with the PTA!

The Las Lomitas PTA still has several leadership roles still available. New families are welcome to join! No experience is necessary and current PTA volunteers will help orient new members. Descriptions and estimated time commitments for each role within the PTA are here, and the following roles are open:

Executive Vice President (or co-VPs): shadows the PTA president to (ideally) take over as President the following year, and runs PTA meetings if the President can't attend.

School Support Chair: a somewhat logistical/behind the scenes role that oversees individual PTA programs in the "School Support" bucket (PTA programs and their "buckets" are listed here).

Secretary: attends all PTA meetings (once per month, currently Wednesday mornings) and takes notes to be reviewed and approved at the following meeting. There is a template for the minutes. It does require making yourself available for the meetings, but not a ton of work beyond that.

Technology Chair: Responsible for the back end of all things Google Groups/emails, Squarespace, etc.
