Hello Southbury Shark Families!
September truly seemed to have flown by! Here we are in October. Southbury has been buzzing with activity throughout. We've had the grand opening of our Reading Lounge which creates a quiet space where students can come and access a variety of resources, as well as, have a peaceful to enjoy reading. September also marked the launch of our HSO Fall Fundraiser Fun Run Color Edition. We have met some of our goals, but there is still room to reach that $15,000 goal where the kids then get to slime ME! Check out the HSO section for more information. On Thursday September 28th the first meeting of the Superintendents Advisory Group was held and the hope and energy that came from that evening was evident. The conversations were based around the Core Values of SD 308 which are Integrity, Collaboration, Humanization, Dignity, Empathy, and Courtesy. I had the opportunity to discuss with all of the other principals in SD 308 how those values are represented in Southbury and how we support those values in our everyday work. Southbury is truly a special place filled with excellent students, staff, and families. Be sure to check out all of the information below. Welcome to October!

Hi everyone! I’m Nurse Mikayla and have LOVED being at Southbury with your kids this year! Our stock supply of clothing is already running low after all of the unexpected nosebleeds, accidents both big and small, rain puddles on slides, or spills in the lunchroom. We would be so appreciative of any donation of clothing - all sizes and pieces of clothing are needed and will save for the day for a student at some point. Specifically, we are in need of girls and boys pants and new underwear for boys, but can use extras of anything and everything. Feel free to drop off your donation in the vestibule on the side of door 1 (main office) and thank you again!
For all ages, please consider putting an extra pair of clothing in your student’s backpack. Worst case scenario it is never used, but in the event that it is needed, it is always on hand! Mikayla Panush BSN, RN Building Nurse Southbury Elementary School |

Southbury Families,
The Home and School Organization (HSO) is prepping for a great year ahead at Southbury Elementary. This parent-teacher/staff organization hosts school-wide events throughout the year, supports staff through staff appreciation events, and so much more. We are looking for new families and continued members to join us on Thursday, September 14th at 6pm in the Southbury Community Room. We will have a space for children to be supervised during the meeting, so bring them along if you need. There is also a virtual option to join in if you cannot make it in person. We would love for you to see what the HSO is all about, be as little or as much involved as you can and prefer! The HSO meets monthly, typically the first Thursday of the month at 6pm. To check out what it is all about and previous events, see our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/southburyparents/
